CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE)

The Certificate of Higher Education (CHE) in Performance Techniques seeks to enable the pupils to apply acting, movement and voice techniques to a live performance or one in the media, to know how to dynamize a performance, and to learn to use communication and expression techniques to a high standard and confidently.

This is an official qualification granted by the Catalan Government (la Generalitat de Catalunya). The Drama School has been active in the creation of this new course of study and has offered it since it was set up. It is a qualification that has long been asked for by the Catalan Association of Drama Schools (ACET - Associació Catalana d’Escoles de Teatre) and is the only one of its kind in Spain.

The objectives of the Certificate of Higher Education are:

To attain the physical and performance preparation required for acting.
To apply and integrate acting, movement and voice techniques into a performance.
To successfully act out a role in a play.
To provide the actors and actresses with a sound creative and professional background.

The Certificate of Higher Education (CHE) in Performance Techniques consists of ten professional modules, nine of which are done at the school and one of which corresponds to an internship with a company in the same sector elsewhere. All in all, 2,000 hours have to be done, divided over two school years.

Besides the hours of classes that are distributed within the established timetable, we understand this type of course to be interdisciplinary, thus including many aspects that are not clearly indicated in the syllabus. At the Drama School we work as a team and we encourage our students to be culturally aware, by getting them to take part in parallel activities in which they can show the audience how they are improving, performance-wise. For that reason, at their disposal are the following:

Erasmus +. The Drama School can carry out European and international cooperation activities within the framework of the Erasmus + program and its been awardered with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE).

Introduction for Theatregoers, an activity which the Drama School offers to increase awareness of Art and Culture and which holds a variety of events during the year. (+info)

Shakesperiences, in which our pupils can freely experiment and perform their own creations. The Dram School offers them a place and basic technical equipment to be able to perform whatever they want to in front of an audience.

Training in the Workplace, which is carried out via an internship in companies in the sector like theatre companies, producing companies, theatre festivals, etc. Pupils can choose whether they wish to work locally or abroad, depending on their profile and the type of professional experience they wish to acquire.

Job Offers, the Drama School receives a series of job offers from producers and producing companies which are on offer to those on the Certificate of Higher Education course, in case they’re interested.

During the second year the pupils have to do 165 hours of work experience in a place of work. For this reason, the Drama School has a series of arrangements with companies and institutions where the pupils can do their internship which will help them to put the know-how they’ve gained into practice. If a pupil asks to do an internship in a specific compnay or institution, and if those in charge of the Certificate of Higher Education (CHE) course consider it to be appropriate, then they will look for a way for it to become possible. The internship can begin the moment the pupil has passed the first year of the course.

REGISTRATION AND ENROLMENT PROCESS

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be able to do the Certificate of Higher Education (CHE), you must have finished the Sixth Form and passed A’levels or the Baccalaureate; or you should have passed the entrance test to university for over 25s; or passed the entrance test to Higher Education.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE ENTRY TEST

The first step consists of registering to do the entry test, which can be done by presenting the application form at the Secretariat in the Drama School. Together with the application form you must hand in a photocopy of your ID card and 35 euros as payment for the registration fees to the entry test. Download the application form

WHAT DOES THE ENTRY TEST ENTAIL?

The entry test will be done once the final list of those admitted and excluded from it has been published. The test will consist of two exercises: one done collectively and the other individually. A few days after the test is done, the results will be published, as well as the date to enrol.

ENROLMENT FOR CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE)

Once the entry test has been done, enrolment will take place in person at the Secretariat at the school.

To get into the first year you must have finished the Sixth Form and passed A’levels or the Baccalaureate (any branch is acceptable). Alternatively, you should have passed the entrance test to university for over 25s or passed the entrance test to Higher Education.

During the registration period, specific entry tests will be held which must be passed in order to be accepted on the course.

To register for the Certificate of Higher Education (CHE), you need to fill in a form which must be handed in at the Municipal Drama School of Lleida. On the same form you also register for the entry test. If you cannot download the file, those interested can get one from the Secretariat at the school.

You must go the the Secretariat at the Municipal Drama School of Lleida and hand in the following documentation:

Photocopy of your ID card
35 euros as payment for the registration fees to the entry test (non-refundable)

Those candidates with special needs derived from a reduced physical, sensory or mental capability or other serious disorders and who are officially recognised as disabled, can write to the school (using a specific form) to demand any necessary additional resources for carrying out the entry test.

It is the Department of Education of the Catalan Government (Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya) that determines if necessary which additional measures or resources are to be given, and informs the interested party and the corresponding assessment committee thereof.

The test consists of two exercises: one done collectively and the other individually.

In the collective exercise the candidates will do a warm-up exercise for 45 minutes led by a teacher from the school so as to express the way they react to group work, their interrelation with the rest of the participants, and their attitude.

In the individual exercise, the candidates will demonstrate their physical, vocal and acting skills via the performance of a text which the candidates will have prepared previously. The candidates must bring any material, objects or costumes needed for their individual exercise. The individual exercise must last no longer than 5 minutes. On the second day of the test the candidates will be assessed on whether they followed the teacher’s instructions.

For both sessions comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear must be worn.

SPECIFIC ENTRY TESTS TO THE CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES 13^TH and 14^TH September 2016

The following criteria will be used to assess the entry tests:

Regarding physical skills the following will be taken into consideration:
- body positioning and awareness
- use of the space
- movement coordination and precision
- ability to respond to instructions
- ability to correct oneself

Regarding vocal skills the following will be taken into consideration:
- correction of diction
- intonation in coherent with the text chosen
- correct pitch, rhythm and expression
- ability to add new things to the performance

Regarding acting skills the following will be taken into consideration:
- dramatic expressivity
- ability to improvise
- capacity for dramatic play
- ability to respond to instructions
- coherence with the performance chosen
- ability to concentrate
- abiltity to work in a group

Each exercise in the test will receive a qualification from 1-10. The overall mark is the average weighted score from the points obtained in each part, expressed numerically with a whole number and 2 decimals.

The weight of the different parts so as to be able to calculate the final qualification will be the following:

Physical skills 30%
Vocal skills 30%
Acting skills 40%

A minimin overall mark of 5 points is necessary to pass the test.

A few days after the entry tests have taken place the result of the admission process will be revealed. The dates on which the conditional or formal enrolment will take place will also be revealed.

As soon as the decree containing the official information about next year’s course comes out, it will be published on the school’s website.

What can I do if I do not agree with the result?

Those candidates can present a claim in writing to the Academic Office at the school during the two working days following the publication of the provisional results. (Opening hours 9am – 2pm)

The day after the last day to present a claim, the evaluating committee will meet, look at the claims and resolve the issue.

Those in disagreement with their final mark can lodge a complaint with the Director-General of Family and Educational Community Matters before a month has passed counting as from the day after the publication of the results. The written appeal should be presented at the school where the exam was held.

It is the Director-General who personally resolves the case and informs the interested party of the decision taken.

As soon as the person passes the entry test a document certifying this will be issued. This document is valid during the year when issued for admission on any Performance Techniques course at any of the schools where this course is held.

Having passed the test does not guarantee a place at the school. The applications are ordered according to the mark received in the entry test, and if the number of applicants is higher than the number of places available, those who passed the entry test at the very same centre are given priority.

After passing the entry test you can now proceed to enrol for the Certificate of Higher Education (CHE). Payment of the course is made via the ATMs at “La Caixa” bank (receipt of payment must be brought to the school), or in cash. Payment can be made in three instalments (September, November and December) interest-free. Under no circumstances is the enrolment fee is refundable.

Fee
According to the municipal fees established by the Lleida City Council the fee for 2016/2017 will be that of 683.60 euros for the first year of the course and 709.10 euros for the second year.
